TEHRAN – The ruins of Gavmishan Bridge in western Iran will undergo urgent restoration, a cultural heritage official has said.

“The historical Gavmishan Bridge which is located near the city of Darreh-Shahr will be overhauled in order to be protected and strengthened through spending 800 million rials (some $19,000),”  CHTN quoted Roya Arjmandi as saying on Tuesday.

Stretching about 170 meters in length, the bridge crosses Seimareh River in a tranquil corner flanked by Ilam and Lorestan provinces. Dating back to the Sassanid era (224 CE-651), the monument is inscribed on the National Cultural Heritage list since 1999.

Darreh Shahr was once a summer capital of Elamites, a pre-Iranian civilization that existed from 2700 to 539 BC.

The city and its surrounding also enjoyed centuries of prosperity during the time of Sassanians as there are still remnants of arches, alleys and passages which testify a specific order of urban development of the time.
